How the job is done

Most fire door faults are fixable. A closer that no longer pulls the door shut, a hinge working loose, seals painted over or torn out, gaps that have opened up as the door has dropped: each of these can be put right without replacing the door.

A&P repairs fire doors with parts that are compatible with the door’s certification, because swapping in the wrong hinge, closer or seal can undermine how the door performs in a fire. Damaged leaves and frames are repaired where that is appropriate. Where a door is beyond repair, we’ll tell you plainly and price a replacement.

Repairs can follow one of our inspections, or a list from your own fire risk assessment or another inspector. Either way, you get a record of what was done to each door.

Questions people ask

Repair or replace: how do I know?

Many faults, such as closers, hinges, seals and gaps, can be repaired. If the leaf or frame is too badly damaged to repair properly, we’ll tell you and price a replacement.

Can I paint a fire door?

Generally yes, but the intumescent strips and smoke seals must not be painted over, as that can stop them working. Check the manufacturer’s guidance for the door.

Can you work from someone else’s inspection report?

Yes. Send us the report or the list of faults and we’ll quote for the repairs.
